St. Jacobi Church - Lyndoch

The history of this church can be taken back to 1847.

Settlers from Germany built cottages and cleared the land despite what the local aboriginals had said about the heavy and constant rain that would flow through the valley and destroy the buildings.

In 1853 the warnings were realised when the area was flooded. The only building left standing was the church St Jacobi.

Until 1862 the church was used as both a school and a church, a larger area was needed to accommodate the growing congregation.

The current church was erected in 1914 and is still standing and in use to this day.
