Langmeil - Bilyara

The initial settlement of Langmeil occurred in 1843. Like Bethany this town to was in time overshadowed by the size of the growing town, Tanunda.

Similar to the pattern of Bethany's township, land holdings of about 10 hectares were laid out in thin narrow strips.

The village was spread along its main road, Langmeil Road, which runs parallel to the north para river.

The most inter stings building in Langmeil are the dark ironstone cottages and barns of the early settlers, several of which have been retained and restored.

Langmeil was another area which was renamed due to World War 1.

The area was renamed to Bilyara, which now exists as a part of Tanunda.

The area did not survive as its own identity, with it merging to form a part of Tanunda at some stage after the First World War.

Langmeil is recognised now only as Langmeil Road (the original main road, from the villages settlement in 1843) and Bilyara Road which extends off of this road in Tanunda.
