Marananaga

Marananga (Gnadenfrei) was settled in the 1840’s by German’s who were originally connected to the Langmeil church congregation.

The Gnadenfrei church was first built in 1849-1853.

The need for a school building in the village became evident and Mr Franc Krause erected a building on his small farm and proceeded to conduct classes to fill the need for the school.

In 1853 the school was instituted.

It was located at Part Section 109 hundred, of Nuriootpa. He named this place Salz Creek.
