Langmeil Church - Tanunda

Langmeil was settled in 1838 by a group of German immigrants who came to South Australia with Pastor Kavel trying to find a place where they could worship freely.

The first church and pastors room was built in 1846.

Prior to this Pastor Kavel would travel forty miles to preach at services and worship at family houses.

The present ‘thanksgiving’ church was built in 1888.

The Dodd pipe organ that remains in the church to this day was a huge and wonderful addition.

The pipe organ consists of 712 pipes controlled by 30 tablets.

English services were introduced in 1936.

A monument to pastor Kavel was erected at the front of the cemetery in his honour.
