About
Barossa History - True Barossa
My name is Dana Roocke and this website was designed for the 2015 Barossa Young Ambassador program project.
I have lived in the Barossa my whole life and work for our families transport company, Nuriootpa Traders.
History has always fascinated me and as such was my favourite subject at school.
The concept behind this website is in part thanks to Great Auntie Dulcie Tscharke, who is the most knowledgeable person I know when it comes to many aspects of the Barossa’s History.
The idea of this website was to provide people one place to find consolidated and comprehensive information of the History of the Barossa Valley, to give people the chance find out a little bit of information regarding those places in the region with a tale to tell, a rich history and some knowledge that is worth sharing.
On beginning my project I found that history is a key area where information is lacking online, I understand that all the history is written in books and can be found but an online search is many peoples first point of call, as such a place that provides both the information and the sources it is taken from so people can further research if they desire was an important concept that I felt needed to be addressed. So that is what this website does!
This website provides a history lesson for those keen to learn and explore more of the Barossa Valley.
Included on this website is information relative to each township and its settlement, the Churches and their congregations, the Founding Families and some of our most famous and historical wineries, foodie places, monuments and buildings of interest.
I really hope you enjoy exploring the Barossa's History :)
This website is a work in progress – If you have any information to share or add to please head over to our contact page and contact me.
Cheers! Dana x
